The “Real” Reality of Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian has 109 million followers on Instagram and counting. Rightfully so, she’s earned it.

Kardashian is a household name and she knows how to market herself well regardless whether you agree with her shenanigans or not.

However, the truth came out in one of her latest Instagram posts this past week.

The image below looks a bit distorted with the vehicle in the background compacted and shrunk and the curb with a bit of a warp in it.

There are also parts of her outfit that have unnatural shadows around her waist.

What’s that tell us?  Not everything is as it seems.

Why The Lies?

I get it.  We all want to look good because it makes us feel good and regardless whether you are ready to admit it or not, it’s nice to be admired.

Kim K. has a tribe of followers so she’s doing what she does to entertain her group.  But, when we all try to look a certain way because we see an image portrayed on TV or on Instagram, we can get into trouble.

Because no matter how hard you try, Photoshop will always win.  It takes the ugly and makes it disappear.  It takes the “nice” and makes it “nicer”.

Face it, health and fitness can never 1-up a computer program.

What To Do About It

Forget social media, magazines, tv and the like.  Not all advertising is real.  If you’re basing your image off someone on Instagram or a magazine, it’s time to get real.

Yeah, it’s okay to use an image as motivation but you should never use an image that isn’t you as a grade to judge your body against.

So here’s what you do.  Think back to a time when you were at your healthiest and go find a picture.  Next, take a photo of you today. You don’t have to share it with anyone.

Is there a difference?  If your body has gone into reverse then what do you need to do to begin getting healthy again?

Use the old photo as motivation and a goal.  Use your recent photo as a baseline.  I know the hardest part for me when I began my transformation was taking that first photo.  The one photo I wasn’t happy with but showed the true me.

Looking back now I’m glad I took it though.  It serves two purposes now.  I can look back and see the actual progress I made and it’s not some photoshopped image.  Second, it shows you I’m real.  Even though I’m a gym owner, I too have struggled with weight.

Fight the Fake With Fitness

I get it. Kardashian has a certain image to uphold.  She models and magazines have been using Photoshop since there was Photoshop.  It’s who she is.

The biggest takeaway you can walk away with is knowing that there is a certain amount of fake in images like these and not to beat yourself up because you don’t look perfect in every way.

So, as I already mentioned take a photo of yourself and get your baseline.  Second, take your measurements.  Specifically, measure around your waist and if you want some extra measurements then by all means.

Next, record your weight from the scale.  It’s best to take your weight measurement first thing in the morning after you’ve gone to the bathroom.  Finally, record your body fat measurement using calipers or a handheld tester like the one we use at the gym.

Weigh-In Checklist

Next, be consistent.  Track your progress over time and keep yourself accountable.  If you know you’re weighing yourself in a week and taking measurements you’re less likely to splurge on a box of Oreos (or ice cream if we’re talking about me!)

Good nutrition, exercise, and a proper amount of sleep are all it takes to get fit and healthy.  However, none of this is entirely easy.  If you want a healthy, toned body put in the work.
